AMAZING SCULPTURE
The Sculpture Down the Lachlan Trail between Forbes and Condobolin has a new addition.
A unique project, the trail will showcase talented artists and their work along the Lachlan River. The Trail will go from Forbes to Condobolin, with four sculptures scheduled for placement in the Lachlan Shire.
‘Varanus’ by Australian sculpture Glen Star (Star Steel Art), is a giant 20 metre Goanna, Gugaa or Girawa in Wiradjuri.
The sculpture was unveiled on Thursday, 16 July at its new home on Greens Road near Gum Swamp.
“This sculpture tells the significance of Gugaa to Wiradjuri people, as a totemic animal as well as an important food source. ‘The bigger the Gugaa the more people fed. Contented bellies meant a contented tribe,” according to a post on the Amazing Forbes NSW Facebook Page.
The unveiling of the sculpture was made possible by Forbes Art Society, Forbes Shire Council and Evolution Mining Limited.
