SUCCESSFUL GRAZING FIELD DAY HELD AT OOTHA
Condobolin Landcare held a Grazing Field Day at Ootha on Wednesday, 1 June.
Sixteen landholders from across the region attended the day.
The morning started with an ‘around the grounds’ discussion and catch up amongst the group, according to Condobolin Districts Landcare, Local Landcare Coordinator, Sarah White.
“Some of the recent challenges noted were the increased prevalence of worms in sheep, and continued issues with saffron thistles and their management,” she explained.
“Attendees commented on their successes with multi species grazing crops, running flerd’s – sheep and cattle together, recent medic and clover growth, and excitement around dung beetle activity over the warmer months.
“The importance of low stress stock handling techniques and going back to the basics of grazing principles was also discussed.
“We stopped at several locations out in the paddock to look at species diversity, pasture growth and soil activity among other things.
“A huge thank you goes to Alan McGufficke for hosting the day.
