COWAL DONATION OPENS A NEW DOOR
A Cowal donation has opened new doors for a support service in Condobolin.
An Evolution Mining grant has given Central West Family Support Group (CWFSG) more open space to assist youth and families across the region.
It follows the not-for-profit’s successful application to round one of the 2021 Cowal Partnering Program, with the awarded funds enabling the installation of a roller door at the back of the Lachlan Street building.
Officer Evolution Mining Specialist – Community and External Relations Steff Willis and Evolution Mining Officer – Community and External Relations Renee Pettit visited CWFSG recently, to see firsthand what the Evolution Mining grant meant for the organisation.
Central Family Support Group executive officer Fiona Skipworth said the service had assisted families within the Lachlan Shire for more than 30 years, providing mentoring and advice, referrals, advocacy and group programs to residents of all ages and backgrounds. She said it was a commonplace for families and youth to gather and spend time.
“Having a roller door installed is very beneficial, as it will improve the space, work health and safety hazards and improve the ventilation,” she explained.
“We will be able to resume some of the programs in the back area that we had to cease due to Covid concerns.”
Fiona said to save moving from place to place, the service purchased the building it now called home. Renovations and improvements have since been the product of grants and other fundraising efforts.
“Evolution has been on this journey with us for a long time,” she stated.
“We’re very grateful for their help throughout the years.”
Evolution Mining Cowal Gold Operations Community Relations Specialist Steff Wills said it was a pleasure to see the benefits of the mine’s sponsorship and donation program across the community.
“Central West Family Support Group is doing amazing work and I firstly want to thank them for their efforts, supporting youth, parents, families and individuals across Condobolin and beyond,” Ms Wills revealed.
“At Evolution Mining we want to make sure our communities are better off for us having been here and for that reason, we are very proud to be supporting Fiona and her team through the installation of this roller door.”
Applications are open for Round Two of the 2021 Cowal Partnering Program until Friday, August 27. Email cgo.community@evolutionmining.com to request an application form or to find out more.
