THROWBACK 2021: Fairies and fun for Condobolin Preschool

NOVEMBER 2021:

Condobolin Preschool and Childcare Centre celebrated play and imagination at a Fairy Tea Party in ‘The Oasis’.
The magical event, held on Thursday, 23 September 2021 was part of a bigger, worldwide initiative – the ‘International Fairy Tea Party’. ‘The Oasis’ is located between the Royal Hotel and Moncreiff’s Livestock and Property in Bathurst Street.
The children and staff made Fairy Wands, Fairy Headbands, Fairy Wristbands, as well as discovering different types of bugs, eating a delicious array of treats and enjoying face painting.
Four Fairy Gardens, made by Sally Chalker, also adorned the brightly decorated space. Scribble stones were also scattered throughout the area, with the children finding out where they were hidden.
According to Condobolin Preschool and Childcare Centre Manager Karen Worthington, the whole concept of a Fairy Tea Party is to celebrate play and imagination.
“For Australia it is the spring equinox and on the other side of the world it is the autumn. It is the time of the year all children regardless of religion, culture and everything else, have 12 hours of daylight, so it is a time to celebrate play,” she explained.
“The connection to fairies is simply to remind us all to appreciate the little things in life, like the magic of play, exploring nature and the outdoors. The idea of fairies gives children the chance to see things up close and interact
“We built a Fairy Garden at the Preschool a few months ago and the children absolutely loved it. Then when we found out about the ‘International Fairy Tea Party’ we thought we definitely have to be part of that.
“We joined other places all over the world in taking part. There is an interactive map where the children can see where we are located in the world.
“Children and staff enjoyed every minute of the Fairy Tea Party.”
The ‘International Fairy Tea Party’ was to be held from Thursday, 23 to Saturday, 25 September 2021, with education facilities such as the Condobolin Preschool and Childcare Centre able to choose which day to host their celebration.
“Thank you to Lachlan Shire Council for allowing the Centre to host our event in the Oasis. It’s one of the children’s favourite locations to visit and we are very lucky to have it at our backdoor,” Karen concluded.
