The Shitbox Rally is an annual fundraiser, founded by James Freeman, that helps raise money for the Cancer Council.
This year, the rally partnered with Rally School Australia and Manheim Auctions Australia.
The idea is people travel great distances in crappy cars that are worth less than $1,000. The participants get really into it and decorate their cars with bright colours and stickers, some even having a theme that they match with by dressing up.
A total of $30 million has been raised since the rallies began, with a target of $2 million this year. The goal was reached only 4 days in, on Wednesday 11th May.
This year, the event started in Wollongong NSW on Saturday 7th May and ended in Mackay QLD on Friday 13th May. A total of 500 people, in teams of 2, participated this year, travelling 3,600kms.
After 497kms (all unsealed), their first stop was in Trundle NSW. Their stay was hosted by Digger Anderson and his wife Debbie at the Trundle Showgrounds. There was a huge campfire and delicious food for those in the rally.
