NSW Governor the Honourable Margaret Beazley and her husband Dennis Wilson discovered big skies, red earth and amazing communities on their tour of the Riverina.
They visited Murrin Bridge and Lake Cargelligo, as part of their trip to the area on Thursday, 27 February.
The pair travelled to Hillston, Murrin Bridge, Lake Cargelligo, West Wyalong, Lake Cowal, Coolamon, Junee and Wagga Wagga on their journey.
In Murrin Bridge, the Governor and Mr Wilson learned about the Local Aboriginal Land Council’s care of Country and view the activities of Murrin Bridge Pre-School.
After meeting with staff and volunteers at Lake Cargelligo’s Multipurpose Health Service, the Governor and Mr Wilson toured Durotank, a leading Australian manufacturer.
The couple then travelled to West Wyalong for a Community Afternoon Tea with members of the Governor and Mr Wilson’s patronage organisations, a tour of West Wyalong Hospital and a Bland Shire Council Civic Reception.
Prior to the visit, Governor Beazley said: “Dennis and I look forward to hearing from local people about their achievements and initiatives, including the challenges they face.”
“These communities really do ‘punch above their weight’ in areas such as agriculture, land care, manufacturing, and community health and well-being.”
