• The 2018 Condobolin Picnic Races were a huge success. The meet featured $28,000 in prizemoney plus trophies. A highlight of the day was the $8,000 Royal Hotel Picnic Cup, which was won by Spinning Dawn, who is trained by Condobolin’s Steve Beattie, and was ridden by Ricky Blewitt. The victory means the points score will help the horse qualify for the $50,000 Picnic Championship Final at Dubbo in September. The weather was perfect and racegoers were entertained after the last race by Duble. Ladies had their fascinators ready and gentlemen donned their suits, in a bid to capture $1,500 in cash prizes including the RB Sellars Clothing Fashions in the Field. Leading Appliances will soon have a new bedding department.

The grand opening will take place on Saturday, 8 August, from 9am at their Bathurst Street store.

Store proprietor Steve Beattie indicated the reasoning behind such a decision was to provide a new service to the community, and to encourage people to shop locally.

“The main reason we decided on mattresses and beds, was people had been asking for it for a number of years,” he said.

“We just want to support Condobolin and offer the services and products that are needed.

“We will also have a range of sheets and bedding accessories in-store. The range will depend on customers – we will be guided by what our customers tell us.

“We will just stock basic beds to start with, and then we will have avenues to bring in more styles and fashions of beds at a later date if there is a need within the community,” Mr Beattie continued.

He added the new department would offer a number of smart or electric beds, which can be utilised by the elderly or those with chronic health problems.

“We will have an Avante smart flex bed and a Hi-Lo electric lift bed for the elderly and incapacitated,” he advised.

“These beds will help people stay and have independence in their homes. We have been told there is a need for such products.”

Mr Beattie went on to say there would be price ranges to suit everyone.

“Since the closing of Target, there has been a need for bedding apparel, and we have decided we will stock a range of sheets, doonas, pillows and the like at different prices,” he said.

“There will be a cheaper and a medium price range in store.”

Residents are encouraged to check out the Grand Opening specials, with one lucky customer getting the chance to take home a queen size mattress.

“You must be in-store to win the mattress. An Avante mattress expert will be on hand to give practical advice and support, and showcase how mattresses are made.”

Steve went on to  note he would keep a back up range, and hoped that would keep the lead time to a minimum.

“We will be feeling our way and we will be open to suggestions from the community. If you have a specific need, come and talk to us and we can discuss options.” he continued.

Leading Appliances has refurbished the back of their store to accommodate their bedding department.

“Come on down during the Grand Opening and check out what we have on offer,” Steve  invited.
