Rugby league oval to be named

Condobolin's Rugby League oval will be named the 'Pat Timmins Oval'By Dominic Geiger

Condobolin’s Rugby League oval (pictured above) will be named the ‘Pat Timmins Oval’ following a request from the Condobolin branch of the Men of League group.

The decision to name the oval was made at last Wednesday’s Lachlan Shire Council meeting.

Representative of the Condobolin branch of the Men of League, Rowan Johnson, said the oval would be named after Pat Timmins because Pat had played the most first grade games in the history of Condobolin Rugby League.

“He began playing first grade for Condobolin when he was 16,” Rowan said.

“He was the top footballer here for a long time, and he played most of his football for Condobolin from 1951 to 1969.

“He also represented group eleven Western Division in both school and senior competitions.

“He never got paid; he just played for the love of the game.”

Rowan said plans were underway to invite Pat back to the town for the official naming ceremony.

“We’ve invited Pat, his friends and family, and any old players back for the ceremony,” he said.

“A date for the ceremony is yet to be set, though could be sometime in the next five to six weeks.

“Pat is currently suffering from a medical condition and we’re going to hold off on the ceremony until his medical conditions allows [him to travel].”
